A 1930s Powder Puff football team poses for a photograph with some other individuals around a warming fire. The term "powder puff" does not seem to fit this tough-looking bunch.
Western State coeds formed two "Powder Puff" football teams which took to the field before the 1939 Homecoming game. Judging by the empty bleachers and leafy trees, this is an early autumn practice session before the big contest.
Possibly one of the first "powder puff" teams in existence, a group of hardy Western State coeds enjoy a wintery Gunnison day donning some sketchy protective equipment and practicing some tackles. Photograph is dated December 4, 1931.
